Walks with themes...

Here are a few more of my walks with their own theme. As far as possible I have tried to cover as many aspects of the City of London as possible, and combine both well known sights with those that are not so well known.
I hope you find something of interest to you here and will hopefully come along to see it for real. Please remember that if there are any specific places you would like to see in the City I can organise a tour around your requirements. Please contact me for details.

Wren churches...

City icons...

£6.50 - Start at Bank station.

Before the Great Fire of 1666 there were 133 parishes in the City, each with its own parish church. Religion was extremely important to the people who lived and worked in the Square Mile.
After the fire eighty eight of these churches had been destroyed. Sir Christopher Wren’s office got the job of rebuilding fifty one of them, as well as Saint Paul’s Cathedral. Wren was almost 80 when the last stone was laid on the great dome.
Now there are just over twenty of his churches left and this walk will show you most of them. Please be aware that the tour only covers the church exteriors.

£6.50 - Start at Bank Station.

This walk covers some of the buildings in the City, both old and new, large and small, civic, secular, religious and commercial.

  • The Mansion House
  • The Royal Exchange
  • The Bank of England
  • The Monument to the Great Fire
  • 30 St. Mary Axe (the Gherkin)
  • The Lloyds Building
  • The Guildhall
  • St. Mary Le Bow
  • St. Pauls Cathedral

Green lungs of the City...

Open air statuary...

£6.50 - Start at Liverpool Street

There are over 150 open spaces in the City of London, all cared for and maintained by the Corporation’s own gardening department. Many are hidden away or created from old churchyards.
Because the City has it’s own micro-climate due to the heat generated from the buildings and underground railway, it is able to support some exotic species of plant life and trees. These tranquil gardens provide an oasis for City workers away from the traffic and crowded streets. Many have their own history attached as well as some odd features.
