An introduction to the City of London...
The area we refer to as “The City of London” is the original Roman settlement founded on the North bank of the river Thames by the Roman emperor Claudius. This was in the year 43 A.D.
Today, it is still referred to by many as “The Square Mile”. The 6 metre high walls that surrounded the City, and the large gates that allowed access, disappeared many years ago but the City still retains those original boundaries and is self governing. It became one of the most important trading and financial centres of the world. My City Highlights tour is a mixture of some historical and modern aspects of this great city and is a good starting point for those of you who are not familiar with the Square Mile.
